Last week you communicated the blood drive details via email. Now it is time to get the word out to the community!

From Dr. Elena Martinez, Clinic Director:

“Great work on the emails last week. Now I need you to create a professional flyer that we can post in our waiting areas and share with patients and local businesses. Use Microsoft Word to design something eye-catching that includes all the essential blood drive details. Remember — this flyer represents our clinic, so it needs to look polished and professional.”

Your Assignment Tasks

Task 1: Header Section 15 pts

Create a prominent header area at the top of your flyer that includes:

  • Sunnydale Family Health Clinic — the clinic name
  • “Community Blood Drive” — the event title (use WordArt or a large, bold heading style)
  • “In partnership with the American Red Cross”

Task 2: Event Details 15 pts

Include all of the following event information, clearly organized and easy to read:

DateSaturday, March 15, 2026
Time9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Location1250 Health Way, Suite 100
RegistrationWalk-ins welcome or register at sunnydaleclinic.org/blooddrive

Task 3: Eligibility Information Table 15 pts

Insert a formatted table using the Table Design tab with the following eligibility requirements:

RequirementDetails
Age17+ (16 with parental consent)
Weight110 lbs or more
HealthGenerally feeling well
IDValid photo ID required
HydrationDrink plenty of water before donating

Task 4: Visual Design 15 pts

Apply professional visual design elements to make your flyer attractive and polished:

  • At least one relevant image or clipart (blood drop, heart, Red Cross logo, healthcare imagery)
  • Consistent color scheme — use reds, whites, and complementary colors throughout
  • Maximum of two font families — one for headings, one for body text
  • At least one bulleted or numbered list
  • Proper margins and white space — the flyer should not look cluttered

Design Tip: Set your page margins to Narrow (Layout tab > Margins > Narrow) to maximize your design space. Use the Design tab to choose a cohesive color theme, and keep your layout balanced with plenty of white space between sections.

Task 5: Call to Action 15 pts

End your flyer with a compelling call to action:

  • “Every Donation Saves Up to 3 Lives!”
  • Contact information: (555) 123-4567 or blooddrive@sunnydaleclinic.org

Task 6: Styles, Themes & Templates 15 pts

Apply document-wide formatting using Word's built-in styles and themes to create a polished, multi-page document (CO-4.3):

  • Apply a Document Theme — Go to Design tab > Themes and choose a theme that complements your flyer's color scheme. This sets coordinated colors, fonts, and effects for the entire document.
  • Use at least 2 built-in Heading Styles — From the Home tab > Styles gallery, apply Heading 1 and Heading 2 (or other heading levels) to organize your content with consistent, theme-aware formatting.
  • Create a second page — “Donor FAQ” or “What to Expect” — Insert a page break (Insert > Page Break or Ctrl+Enter) and add a second page that serves as an information sheet for donors. Include at least 4 Q&A items or preparation steps. Use the same heading styles and theme from page 1 for a cohesive look.
  • Apply page borders or a watermark — Go to Design tab > Page Borders to add a border, or Design tab > Watermark to add a subtle watermark (e.g., “Sunnydale Clinic”) for a professional multi-page finish.

Theme Tip: After applying a theme, your Heading Styles will automatically update to match the theme’s fonts and colors. This is the power of styles — change the theme once and the entire document updates!

Step-by-Step Instructions

1
Open Microsoft Word and create a new blank document.
2
Set margins to Narrow — Go to Layout > Margins > Narrow to give yourself more room for your flyer design.
3
Apply a Document Theme — Go to Design tab > Themes and select a theme that fits a healthcare/community feel. This will set coordinated colors, fonts, and effects for your entire document.
4
Create your header using Heading Styles — Type the clinic name and apply Heading 1 from the Home tab > Styles gallery. Use Insert > WordArt for the event title. Add the Red Cross partnership text. Apply Heading 2 to section headings throughout the flyer.
5
Add event details — Enter the date, time, location, and registration information. Use formatting (bold, font size, spacing) to make these details stand out.
6
Create the eligibility table — Go to Insert > Table and create a 2-column, 6-row table (including the header row). Use the Table Design tab to apply a professional style.
7
Insert an image — Go to Insert > Pictures > Online Pictures or Stock Images and find a relevant image. Resize and position it appropriately.
8
Add a bulleted or numbered list — Include at least one list (for example, “How to Prepare” tips or eligibility requirements in list form).
9
Add your call to action — Make “Every Donation Saves Up to 3 Lives!” prominent at the bottom of page 1, along with the contact details.
10
Create your second page — Press Ctrl+Enter (or go to Insert > Page Break) to start a new page. Title it “Donor FAQ” or “What to Expect” using Heading 1. Add at least 4 Q&A items or preparation steps, using Heading 2 for each question or section.
11
Add page borders or a watermark — Go to Design tab > Page Borders to add a decorative border, or Design tab > Watermark to insert a subtle background watermark for a polished, professional look across both pages.
12
Save your file — Save as LastName_Week2_Flyer.docx. Then also save as PDF: File > Save As > PDF.
